Long Blue Line - For Drumline (2019)
Long Blue Line - For Drumline (2019)
Difficulty: Hard - Ideal for high school or collegiate-level ensembles
Duration: c. 1’30”
Winner of the 2019 Troopers All-American Street Beat Contest
In 2019, the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps held a “Street Beat” contest, inviting composers to submit a cadence especially written for the Troopers drum line. I was a performing member of the corps in 2017, and felt compelled to write a cadence and submit my entry. Soon, I got word that I won the competition and received my prizes, including a beautiful Pearl marching snare drum in a finish that the Troopers marched in 2013.
Though the Troopers drum line is a formidable group, this cadence was written not to be too difficult so as not to take too much time from rehearsal, but still challenging enough to be stimulating and fun to play.
This can be an ideal cadence for a high school, college, or drum corps group looking for something new to work on that is both fun to listen to and fun to play in the stands, during a parade, a pep rally, or standing still.
Feel free to change the “TROOP!” vocal at the end, though I do encourage everyone to keep the “YEE-HAW!” vocal in the middle. It’s just so satisfying!
Thank you to the folks at Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps for all the fond memories.
Score and parts are 8.5x11 PDFs and are delivered digitally.
