You may want an original piece of music to be written for a special event, dedicated to somebody, or that suits to the strengths and weaknesses of your ensemble. I accept commissions for concert band, string orchestra, full orchestra, choir, chamber ensembles, or any other combination of instruments.
Consider the following questions below, and when you’re ready, hit the “Commission a Piece” button at the bottom of this page to contact me about your commission.
WHAT KIND OF PIECE WOULD YOU LIKE? Is it for a specific event or person? Is there a particular style you want? Are there any instrumentation parameters that may be important? Do you want to feature certain instruments or players? All of this is important to consider before communicating your ideas with me.
HOW WILL THE COMMISSION BE FUNDED? How will the commission be funded? School funds? Band Boosters? Donors/Patrons? Partnering with other organizations for a consortium? This can usually be the most stressful aspect of the process, so have a solid plan in place.
WHAT’S THE TIMELINE? For a commission, a timeline is essential. You need to think about when you want to receive the commission as well as the intended premiere date/due date to allow everything to be prepared in a timely fashion.
HIT THE BUTTON AND CONTACT ME. Once you have an idea of the above three steps, use the big button below and we will discuss your ideas, funding, and the timeline.
SIT BACK, RELAX, AND WATCH! Once we have negotiated and signed a contract, I will set aside time on my calendar to work on your commission. I will share my process with you as your piece is created. This may be something you may want to share with your students or your ensemble. Oh, and I may also make a YouTube video about it!
